Biography
Fernando Leibovici is an economic policy advisor in the Research division of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas after previously serving in the same role in the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis, he was previously an assistant professor of economics at York University in Toronto. His research studies questions at the intersection of international trade and macroeconomics. Most recently, he has studied the drivers and implications of global shipping dynamics, the extent to which trade risk affects the gains from trade openness, and the potential for trade and industrial policy to mitigate shortages of critical goods in a global economy. He holds a B.S. in economics and philosophy from the University of Toronto, an M.A. in economics from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in economics from New York University. Leibovici’s research has been published in top academic journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Journal of International Economics, International Economic Review, and Canadian Journal of Economics, among others. His work has been featured in prime media outlets including the Wall Street Journal and Barron’s.
