Lyle Experiential Apprenticeship Program (LEAP)

The Lyle Experiential Apprenticeship Program (LEAP) gives first- and second-year students early access to hands-on engineering experiences. Through mentorship, real-world projects and applied learning, LEAP helps you build the skills and confidence to succeed in your academic and professional journey.

What is LEAP?

LEAP is designed for early undergraduate students who want to move beyond the classroom and gain practical experience. The program works alongside Lyle’s student-success initiatives:

  • EDGE (Experiential Development for Global Engineers)
  • CORE (COrnerstone Research & Experiential Learning)

While CORE connects industry-defined challenges to your coursework, LEAP helps you apply that knowledge in real-world settings.

Program benefits and opportunities

  • Work as an undergraduate research assistant or in applied university roles
  • Build skills in research, communication and problem-solving
  • Connect with faculty mentors and peers
  • Develop confidence and leadership for future careers

Earn while you learn

As a LEAP apprentice, you will receive an annual stipend ranging from $5,000 to $9,000, including an optional summer research opportunity, along with personalized mentorship and hands-on training.

Where you can contribute

  • Faculty research labs
